What Is Balloon Sinuplasty Treatment?
To address chronic sinusitis, the long-term inflammation of the nasal passages or sinuses, the Balloon Sinus Dilation (more commonly known as balloon sinuplasty) is an in-office procedure that offers lasting relief. In the procedure, one of our Minneapolis-based surgeons opens your sinus cavity and drainage pathways to improve sinus health.
Balloon sinus treatment gently restores airflow, aids in drainage and helps healing. Patients who receive the treatment typically report a meaningful improvement in their health and quality of life for at least two years after their balloon sinuplasty procedure.
The Benefits of Balloon Sinuplasty Procedure
Advantages of the treatment include:
- Immediate and lasting relief by solving the anatomical problem that leads to chronic sinusitis
- Performed in the office with local anesthesia for maximum comfort and convenience
- Most patients return to normal activity within one to two days
- Cost-effective, as there’s no hospital stay, general anesthesia or facility charges
What To Expect From Balloon Sinuplasty Treatment
The procedure itself takes one and a half to two hours, depending on your anatomy and your specific condition.
Generally, patients are able to return to normal activities after a couple of days. Since it’s minimally invasive, the procedure has a low complication rate. You may experience postoperative bleeding, pain and swelling, or an allergic reaction to anesthesia or other medications administered during the procedure. Infection may also rarely occur.
